J.B. Gurley, the founding principal of GRE Investments, has completed transactions with a total value exceeding $5.0 billion. Mr. Gurley’s experience spans the acquisition, financing, leasing and development of a range of assets encompassing office, retail, hotel and industrial properties and over 4,000 units of “for rent” and “for sale” multi-family housing.

Mr. Gurley began his more than 30-year career in the training program of Equitable Life’s New York office, working on the financing and acquisition of office and hotels in the New York market while completing the coursework for a MAI designation. Mr. Gurley then joined RREEF (today’s DB Real Estate) as an acquisitions officer. Working from RREEF’s New York and Chicago offices, Mr. Gurley was responsible for the Firm’s investments in select markets and was directly involved in acquisitions, financings and sales totaling over $2.0 billion.

After nearly 20 years in New York and Chicago Mr. Gurley moved to Baltimore and shortly thereafter joined Walker & Dunlap to lead the Firm’s Structured Finance and Investment Advisory businesses. These business lines completed transactions with an aggregate value of over $1.5 billion during Mr. Gurley’s tenure with the Firm. In 2009 Mr. Gurley left Walker and Dunlop to start an advisory firm focused on assisting both banks and borrowers with the valuation and restructuring of their troubled real estate assets. From 2009 until 2012 Mr. Gurley completed more than $800 million in workout and restructuring transactions in major markets around the Country. Immediately preceding the formation of GRE Investments, Mr. Gurley was a Principal with Markel Eagle Partners. While at Markel Eagle Mr. Gurley led the firm’s development and acquisition of commercial and residential property across four separate funds.
